ALUMNI INVOLVEMENT IN EXPANSION

A very important part of the survival, growth, and development of the FarmHouse colony into a FarmHouse chapter is the role which alumni play. Alumni involvement takes many forms, but most involvement takes place through chapter advisors and through the FarmHouse Association.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A CHAPTER ADVISOR?

Basically, it is, as the name suggests, one who advises the colony/chapter on issues of special concern to the life and health of the group (such as rush, pledge education, scholarship, house manage-ment, campus activities, alumni relations, etc.) and programming that will help to "Build Men". Many times the colony/chapter will ask for specific help from the advisor, but otherwise the advisor is primarily seen and not heard - except when he thinks it necessary to speak out to keep the chapter on track. The International Office publishes a Chapter Advisor's Handbook which gives more specific information on the role and duties of the chapter advisor. Copies of the Chapter Advisor's Handbook can be ordered from the International Office at no cost to the colony/chapter.

Chapter advisors are members of the FarmHouse Association and serve as liaisons between the colony/chapter and the Association.

WHAT IS A FARMHOUSE ASSOCIATION AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

The FarmHouse Association is a group of FarmHouse men, usually in states (or areas) where there is a FarmHouse chapter or colony oper-ating on a college or university campus. The primary function of the Association is to serve as a housing corporation for the chapter or colony, but there are other important roles the Association can fill.

The FarmHouse Association should also serve as an avenue for social gatherings of alumni, as the chief source of fund-raising from alumni, and as a resource pool to assist the chapter or colony with Total Membership Education programming. (Such as speakers and work-shop presenters on topics of interest to the colony/chapter, advice on the pledge education program, alumni relations, etc. For more infor-mation on Total Membership Education programming, contact the Inter-national Office.)

WHEN SHOULD THE ASSOCIATION BE FORMED?

Hopefully, an Association will become incorporated while the colony is striving for its charter. In any case, however, an Associa-tion should be incorporated and actively meeting within one year of the chapter's chartering.

WHO MAY BE MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION?

Association membership consists of all chapter, alumni, associate and honorary members residing within a state or interstate area, and can include potential associate members. Of course, this also includes the Advisors.
