Expansion Manual

WHY ADD ANOTHER CHAPTER OF FARMHOUSE?

For most students, the college years, are highly developmental ones. Young people move out of their parents' households and begin to make more decisions independent of their parents. However, the kind of people with whom they live and associate closely at college have a great influence upon their lives - in shaping ideas, attitudes, morals, etc.

FarmHouse emphasizes the full participation of the individual within the university and his community. Starting a chapter of FarmHouse creates an environment that will encourage the maximum development of each member, and will aid the member in achieving his potential. The living experience will expand his personality, his intellect, and will help him develop an understanding of himself and encourage his concern for others. FarmHouse living experience will be instrumental in:

* Encouraging scholarship
* Developing leadership ability
* Promoting democratic living
* Broadening individual interests
* Making advice and counsel accessible
* Providing lasting friendships
* Encouraging vocational interests
* Creating living conditions that support strong moral convictions

Our Fraternity actively emphasizes intellectual, spiritual, social, moral and physical excellence. Through chapter expansion FarmHouse can increase effectively its membership and become a greater asset to society. As the organization grows it becomes better known and more highly regarded, thus enhancing the prestige of all FarmHouse Chapters. Moreover, through expansion, the fraternity will move toward its goal of providing a broader range of improved services to chapters and members and of doing it in an efficient manner.

EXAMPLES OF ATTITUDE BY UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS

FarmHouse provides positive influences which university administrators wish to foster among their students. Our records show that these influences are embodied in the life-style of our chapters. The following statements testify to the attitude of the administrations of some of the universities, which have FarmHouse chapters.

"Many general fraternities have ideas and glorious goals that are often only mentioned in the chapter room, but the members of FarmHouse Fraternity exhibit an uncommon commitment to the ideals of their fraternity in their daily actions. The Fraternity's mission as a Builder of Men has been exemplified by their commitment to high academic standards, strong alumni association, and personal integrity."

- Bruce M. Pitman
Dean of Students
Student Advisory Services
University of Idaho

"I am particularly impressed with FarmHouse Fraternity's effort of "total chapter education" with their members. They do not merely stress the social offerings of joining a fraternity, but in addition, the forum for intellectual and moral development. There is no doubt in my mind that there is strong support for educational programming in a FarmHouse Chapter."

- Douglas K. Lange
Assistant Dean of Students
Vanderbilt University
Formerly Fraternity Affairs Advisor
Iowa State University

"The philosophy of FarmHouse assists in helping each student to establish his own identity within the framework of the larger community. Programs which stress positive associate member (pledge) education and active involvement in campus affairs complement similar directions urged by the University leadership."

- E. Garth Jenkins
Dean of Student Affairs
Stetson University
Formerly Assistant Dean, Student Affairs
Auburn University
