A message from the Executive Director

Since I began working for the FarmHouse Foundation seven years ago, I’ve been asked numerous times how I came to work for FarmHouse or a "Fraternity".

I’ve been asked this question even more in the last 18 months in my role as Executive Director of the Foundation. And you wouldn’t believe some of the strange questions I get about what I do and what FarmHouse is all about, especially from non-members.

However, I always say, "I wish I had a better story. I found the position in the newspaper but knew about FarmHouse in college. This was my first job after graduating from the University of Northern Iowa. The opportunity was appealing to me with my background in public relations, marketing and journalism and because of my own Greek experience in Alpha Phi."

I then share, "When I interviewed for that first job, I could tell this organization was made of greatness. The office was modest and the staff small, but I quickly saw the difference they were making in other people’s lives. I couldn’t help but want to be a part of it."

I add, "I believe in FarmHouse and say...

I wish you could meet the outstanding 1,360 undergraduates and interact with them at one of the FarmHouse leadership conferences. You should see when the 'lightbulb' goes for them in how to be an effective leader, role model and team player. And see their reaction when they learn about the their strengths and how to adapt them to their own life. I’m always impressed by their character, maturity and enthusiasm.

If only you could hear the gratitude in the young men’s voices when they learn they are receiving an academic scholarship and tell me they won’t have to take out an extra loan for college because of this money. And did you know these undergraduates have a collective GPA of 3.0?

I wish you could meet all of the amazing alumni. Men of various careers and leadership positions, with varying ages, who share with pride what the Fraternity has meant to them and why they continue to share their time, talent and treasure. The look in their eyes when they talk about meeting their best friends, wives and colleagues through FarmHouse is immeasurable.

You should come with me to a FarmHouse chapter meeting, an alumni event or Conclave and see the fellowship that fills the room when these men gather. These men never shy away from meeting a new face or welcoming and old friend. It’s true friendship at its best.

If only you could be a part of the International Board, Board of Trustees or a local Association when vital decisions are made, and never taken lightly, for the best interests and future of our chapters, members and the International organization. These devoted alumni sacrifice their time, pleasures and comforts to make FarmHouse better tomorrow than it was yesterday.

Perhaps, like me, you have attended a FarmHouse wedding or funeral, and witnessed the heartfelt appreciation these men have for one another – when together numerous men sing or pray in unison in tribute to a brother. These times with laughter and tears make the deepest impression on what’s important in your own life."

I’ve been fortunate to experience these great opportunities with and for FarmHouse. This is why I believe in the vision, goals, dreams and people that make this FarmHouse great. As a donor myself, supporting and serving FarmHouse is truly rewarding and fulfilling.

Just as we are and will be grateful to have you join us as a donor, I know you will feel a similar pride that comes from sustaining FarmHouse.
